Visit local Sacred Sites and learn the history, traditions and use of the Medicine Wheel, Labrynth and Stupa. The Labyrinth first appeared in 20,000 BC in Ukraine and Siberia and is an ancient spiritual tool, used for the purpose of prayer, meditation, reflection, and contemplation. A Stupa is a universal symbol of enlightened mind and can be found in countries around the world where Buddhism exists. These architectural structures are believed to connect heaven and earth and are said to mirror the harmony and perfection of universal principles. They invite the human mind to awaken its full capabilities. Although Medicine Wheels have been scattered all over the planet, no written record of their use and purpose has been found. One Medicine Wheel dates back 4500 years and we know that the Medicine Wheel is used in Native American Spirituality. Ceremony and Ritual is the most common reason we know to construct and gather around a Medicine wheel. Learn to construct a medicine wheel anywhere and some of the ways to use the Medicine Wheel. HOPI TOURS
It is a great honor and calling to visit the Hopi people; for some, it is a once in a lifetime experience. The name Hopi means “peaceful people”. . The Hopi first became known to white men in the summer of 1540, when Coronado, then at Cibola (Zuni), dispatched Pedro de Tobar and Fray Juan de Padilla to visit 7 villages, constituting the province of Tusayan, toward the west or north west. The names of the Tusayan towns are not recorded by Coronado's chronicler s, so that with the exception of Oraibi, Shongopovi, Mishongnovi, Walpi, and Awatobi, it is not known with certainty what villages were inhabited when the Hopi first became known to the Spaniards. Omitting Awatobi, which was destroyed in 1700 with the possible exception of Oraibi none of these towns now occupies its 16th century site. Imagine travelling back in time to this ancient and isolated site. Our drive begins as we pass through beautiful Oak Creek Canyon with towering red rock formations and beautiful Oak Creek flowing alongside the road. The San Francisco Peaks come in to view as we approach Flagstaff. The Peaks are sacred to both the Hopi and Navajo people. We continue our drive and pass through the Navajo Nation Once at Hopi you will see the oldest continuously inhabited village in this country, Old Oraibi located on the Third Mesa. We visit the Cultural Center and Hopi Museum on Second Mesa where we can view excellent examples of Hopi crafts and photographs depicting the Hopi way of life in the early 20th Century. We will enjoy a lunch here, where traditional Hopi food, including flavorful Blue Corn Frybread is available. On First Mesa we will have a Hopi guided tour of Walpi, a village that still adheres to the traditional way of life. Handicrafts directly from Hopi Native made items are available for purchase and the artists will explain the symbolism of the handicrafts. Our tour includes the services of a local Hopi guided village tour, Hopi Museum and Lunch, beverages and snacks for travel.
